Pittsfield, NH – Mary S. French of Pittsfield NH, passed away at the age of 93 in the early hours of Wednesday, August 26th. Mary was predeceased by her husband, John (Jack) F. French of 71 years.
Throughout her life while married to John, they lived in Pembroke, Epsom, Webster, Hopkinton, and Pittsfield NH. She is greatly missed by her grown children John, George, Harold, Ralph, Betsy, Frank, Aimee, and Rachel; their spouses Flossy, Anita, Laura, James, Arthur, and Scott; her grandchildren John, Abigail, Teegan, Cory, Patrick, Chloe, Lisa, Andrew, Spofford, Robert, Mary, Amelia, Susan, Arthur, Sarah, Mason, and Margaret; their spouses Shelly, Michael, Mino, Dylon, Jeff, Kim, and Kirby; her great grandchildren Cody, Nathan, Emily, Dominic, Dustin, Daxton, Rylee Rose, Noah, Milo, Emma, Parker, Adrian, Mattie, Jamie, Jordynn, Marcy and Carter. Mary also had love for her nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who added to her happiness over many years.
On Thanksgiving, November, 24,1932 Mary was born to Foster and Dorothy (Stone) Spofford. She had two sisters, Emily and Mildred. As a teenager, Mary lived in Dover, NH. While attending Dover High School, Mary began what would become her life long passion of debating as a member of the debate team. She became a Rainbow Girl at the Dover Assembly Number 14 and earned her Grand Cross of Color through community service. In 1951 Mary became a member of Daughters of American Revolution. Continuing as a Legacy Member for 73 years of the Buntin-Rumford-Webster Chapter. During this time, Mary was Chaplain and First Vice Regent of the Captain Andrew Buntin Chapter DAR.
Mary was an active artist working in several mediums, including fiber arts, painting, and drawing, as well as poetry. She would go on to become a member of the Yogurt Poets of Concord and the Percheron Poets of Boscawen. Her contemporaries at Percheron Poets published Mary’s work that reflected on her childhood. ‘A Remembering’ can still be purchased on Amazon.
Please join us for grave side services at Pembroke Street Cemetery, Pembroke, NH at 10am on Monday, September 28, 2026 followed by a celebration of Mary at Bear Brook State Park.
