Stop the hate from Libertarians
I am a Republican. Many of the Democrats serving in New Hampshire are my friends. I disagree with them — sometimes strongly. That is politics.
But there is a line that should have nothing to do with party affiliation, and the Libertarian Party of New Hampshire has crossed it. This week, its X account stated, “We openly support the assassination of basically every elected Democrat in New Hampshire,” before suggesting that people unwilling to do that should vote Republican.
This isn’t the first time. Earlier this year, the same account said that under its interpretation of libertarian ethics it was permissible to kill former Executive Councilor Andru Volinsky over a tax proposal. And in 2024, the account drew national attention for a post about assassinating then-Vice President Kamala Harris. This is not normal political disagreement.
New Hampshire belongs to the Republican who wants lower taxes. It belongs to the Democrat who wants more services. It belongs to Libertarians, independents, progressives, conservatives and the person who couldn’t name their state representative if you offered them $50. It belongs to all of us.
Vote. Pay attention to who is actually running for office. And if public service is something you can reasonably do, consider running yourself. I don’t care whether the person sitting beside me doing that is a Republican, Democrat, independent or traditional Libertarian. Today, there is something more fundamental worth defending.
If my Democratic friends lose their elections, they should go home. If they win, they belong in those offices. Nobody gets to threaten them out. Nobody gets to “violently expel” them from their own state. Not in my name as a Republican. And not in my New Hampshire.
