Goodlander makes bad choice with Warmington

I was disappointed to see Maggie Goodlander openly campaign for and endorse opioid lobbyist Cinde Warmington. She should know better, and her constituents deserve better.

Congresswoman Goodlander speaks about putting New Hampshire first and standing up for Granite Staters. Those are values we can all get behind, and expect our elected officials to uphold. Unfortunately, supporting and campaigning with an opioid lobbyist is not putting New Hampshire first.

Warmington’s record as a lobbyist for Purdue Pharma has been well documented. While communities across New Hampshire were devastated by the opioid crisis, she lied on behalf of Purdue Pharma, describing OxyContin as a “miracle drug” with “very few side effects.” Looking back at the suffering the opioid epidemic brought to families across our state, those words are difficult to ignore. New Hampshire lost too many sons, daughters, parents and friends to this crisis. Communities large and small have carried Warmington’s consequences for decades. That history deserves to be treated with the seriousness it warrants.

Public endorsements and campaign appearances send a message. There is no world in which Maggie Goodlander thinks opioid lobbyist Warmington is better for New Hampshire. By campaigning alongside Warmington, Goodlander is making a clear that she’s putting partisan politics ahead of what is best for our state. I hope Goodlander reconsiders that decision and explains her reasoning for supporting an opioid lobbyist.
