Timothy Greenough Norris

New London, NH – Timothy Greenough Norris (Tim), a longtime resident of Andover, New Hampshire, died on October 5, 2026.

Tim was born on January 18, 1944, in Boston, Massachusetts, to Guy Norris and Lucy Codman Norris. As a young boy, he began spending his summers in Waterville Valley, New Hampshire, where he eventually met his sweetheart, wife, and life partner.

After graduating from Dublin School, Tim went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Harvard University and a master’s degree from Dartmouth College. While his studies centered on literature, his interests were wide-ranging, with a particular love for sports and the outdoors.

Tim arrived in Andover in 1966, where he and his wife raised their son. He commenced a lifelong career at Proctor Academy, serving as an English teacher, college counselor, and coach. Tim’s relentless amiability, eclectic teaching style, and unique sense of humor earned him a place in the hearts of generations of students.

Tim coached many team sports before finding his greatest passions in Nordic skiing and cycling. He began coaching ski jumping at Proctor in 1969, and in the mid-1970s founded the Andover Outing Club, a grassroots junior program that introduced countless athletes to Nordic skiing. During this time, Tim began the process of transforming a single, rundown ski jump into one of the country’s premier training facilities for young Nordic skiers.

In the decades that followed, Tim led Proctor to New England championships and launched the careers of many elite skiers, five of whom went on to compete in the Olympics. In 2017, he was inducted into the American Ski Jumping Hall of Fame. The ski jumps at Proctor Ski Area bear his name.

While Tim took great joy in the success of his most accomplished skiers, his enduring principle was that every young athlete deserved to feel equally valued.

In his later years, Tim found pleasure in the natural beauty and quiet rhythms of life in New Hampshire. Whether kayaking on Bradley Lake, helping restore the Andover Rail Trail, or participating in the Andover Historical Society, he remained deeply connected to the community he had called home for so many years.

Tim was predeceased by his wife, Susan Abbott Norris (Suzy), and his brothers, Christopher Norris and Nicholas Norris.

Tim is survived by his son Matthew Norris (Kelly), Seattle, WA; his grandson Tobin Norris, Seattle, WA; his sister-in-law Kathleen Norris (Kit), New London, NH; his niece Gretchen Blake (Ian), Davis, CA; his nephew Christopher Norris (Alisa), Glen Ridge, NJ; his niece Shanda Holm (Andrew), Leavenworth, WA; and his nephew Joshua Norris (Sue), Andover, NH, along with many cousins.
