Local elections matter

I’m voting for Becky Berk. I’ve met her and believe she is truly interested in representing the best interests of Chichester and Pittsfield residents.

For the last four years, both incumbents have voted in lockstep with an extremist right wing agenda. Dressed up as Republicans they are carrying the water for the Free State Project with a top priority to dismantle public education. Side note: If you don’t know what the Free State Project is and the out-of-state billionaire funding behind it, please find out.

I’m tired of local officials doing the bidding of billionaires who could care less about life in the Granite State!

The crusade against public education began with Education Freedom Accounts touted as a way to level the educational playing field for underprivileged students. A good idea executed with ill intent.

In 2021, EFAs launched with an $8 million budget and 54% of enrolled students were from low-income households. That mushroomed to more than $51 million this year with only 19% from low-income households. Why? Because the Republican majority in Concord has fostered it through continually increasing enrollment caps and eliminating income requirements.

As a result, public education funding keeps shifting to local communities while New Hampshire tax dollars subsidize private education for families already sending their kids to private schools. That is not leveling the playing field. That is grift.
