Three officers fired their weapons in the fatal shooting of a woman in Bath earlier this month, the attorney general’s office announced on Thursday.

On Oct. 8, Jeanne Seto, 36, was armed and driving to confront a family member when local police departments and New Hampshire State Police responded. Seto was armed with a handgun when officers approached her vehicle, and she did not comply with commands, according to a press release from the Attorney General’s Office. She died of multiple gunshot wounds.

The officers involved were Troopers Brandyn Humberstone and Juan Vargas, along with Sgt. Kris Lowe of the Lincoln Police Department, according to the release.

Humberstone has been a law enforcement officer in New Hampshire for two years, and Vargas for three. Lowe has served with the Lincoln Police Department for nine years.

This is the eighth officer-involved shooting in New Hampshire this year.

State law allows police to use lethal force if they reasonably believe their lives or the lives of others are in danger. The attorney general’s office, which reviews every use of deadly force by law enforcement, is continuing to investigate the incident.

It almost always rules that officers’ fatal actions are legally justified.
