Miles Sattely, an 8-year-old resident of New London, placed third overall last week in the U.S.A. Snowboard and Freeski Association’s national championships in Copper Mountain, Colorado.

Over 10 days, Sattely participated in slopestyle, slalom, giant slalom, rail jam, halfpipe and boardercross events. He finished third (out of 25 in the 7-8 boys’ division) in the boardercross finals, sixth in giant slalom, fifth in slalom and third overall.

“When I first started, we thought I might do one or two competitions in New Hampshire,” he told his parents. “Now we’re at the nationals winning medals.”

Sattely trains at Ragged Mountain in Danbury and works with coach Shane Mahoney.
