Letter: Ayotte is crowing over plan to kill businesses

To Sen. Kelly Ayotte: You are thumping your chest over defeating the online sales tax amendment to the Marketplace Fairness Act that would make online retailers collect sales taxes for other jurisdictions in which they do not have a physical presence, as if that were a good win.

In fact, what you are doing is killing the “brick and mortar” businesses on the Main Streets of other states that have sales taxes. They cannot compete with the same goods sold cheaper over the internet. The amendment to tax internet goods would help. I know this, and you should too. You go into a store to see, touch, try on, an item, and then you go home and buy it online for less.

Goodbye, store. Goodbye, local jobs. Goodbye, local economy. Good going, Kelly!

Why would Ayotte purposely vote for an amendment that does not involve her state at all but will kill jobs in other states? What could account for such an economy-destroying move? Could it be her ill-considered adherence to the ongoing partisan Republican assault on my president just to stick it to him, and who cares who gets hurt?
