OUR ENVIRONMENT NEEDS MORE LOCAL REPORTING
The Concord Monitor is launching its Environmental Reporting Lab, a long-term effort to better inform the community about the New Hampshire environment. To launch phase 1 of this effort, we need your help. The money raised will go toward hiring a full-time environmental reporter.

The Weare Board of Selectmen has accepted the resignation of police Chief John Velleca.
Velleca tendered the resignation last week, following a brief romantic affair with his secretary this past summer. The secretary, Jennifer Posteraro, claimed last month that Velleca had assaulted her at her home in Hillsboro. State investigators announced last week that there is not enough evidence to prove that.
Tom Clow said the board of selectmen, which he serves as chairman of, also voted to extend Posteraro’s paid administrative leave through Oct. 30 “while we’re sorting out a few things.” He said no decision has been made about finding a new chief.
Deputy Chief Sean Kelly is running the department in the interim.
