Thanks a Million: New lights brighten and save energy

In just 15 months from the idea’s spark to completion, the Friends of The Audi have upgraded the theatre’s stage lighting to an LED system. The power-saving and cost-cutting LEDs greatly enhance stage lighting capabilities for all future shows. By limiting production expenses, the LEDs will help keep the City Auditorium affordable and accessible for everyone in our community. The Friends’ LED project was chaired by Merwyn Bagan, treasurer, and Steven Meier, vice president and stage lighting chair, and assisted by the City’s Finance Director Brian LeBrun.

Most astounding, the $150,000 project was created with an all-volunteer effort and great thanks are due to the community, especially to Unitil and Gary Miller for starting the project with a $50,000 grant to support carbon-savings efforts for the city-owned building. Additional grants covered half the cost, thanks to the Merrimack County Savings Bank Foundation, Madelaine G. Von Weber Trust and The Bagan Foundation.

The Friends of The Audi provided the additional $75,000,including proceeds from the hospitality committee – the “famous cookie bakers” – led by Joanie McIntire, from the 2014 and 2015 Gala season openers led by Wallace Pineault and David Murdo, Rhythm of the Night shows presented by area dance companies, and Perennial Exchanges led by Karon Devoid.

In addition, Friends made gifts in memory and in honor of Mitchell BonGiorno, Betty Bourgault, Joan Farrel, Mario Giordano, Laura McCormack, John Musumeci, Kenneth and Joye Olson, Germaine Pouliot, Eleanor Stark, Faith Sulloway, Kenneth and Edna Walker and Loren “Chuck” Woodward.

Special gifts dedicated to the LED Lighting Fund were received from the Concord Dance Academy Holiday Spectaculars, Cindy Flanagan, The Rev. Louis and Priscilla George, Raymond and Rose Marie Lanier, Merwyn and Carol Bagan, Maureen Redmond-Scura and Mark Scura.

As Concord City Auditorium celebrates 110 years as the home of our community-based arts and entertainment, The Friends of The Audi thank our generous community for brightening all our lives.
