Letter: Bicyclist’s death was a planning failure

Thursday, September 13, 2018

Lay the sad and unfortunate death of the bicyclist on Route 3 (North State Street) directly at the feet of those progressive engineers and planners who decided that major arterials should be narrowed and have pretty green spaces between the travel way and the sidewalk.

These are the same people who bring you “roundabouts” (traffic circles) in the name of traffic calming. If you have ever seen the traffic on this route when a couple of yard sales are going on, then you know what an oxymoron that is.

Some time in the future the new planners and engineers will say, “Wow, this road is way too narrow.” One can hope that time will come sooner than later, and before any more of these follies are built.
