■The Concord Public Library is offering the Paws for Pages program that is designed to help kids improve their reading and communication skills. All dogs who participate in Paws for Pages are certified through Therapy Dogs International, and are calm, gentle dogs who love people. Millie, Mr. T and Clarabel will be available with their handlers in the Children’s Room to listen as children read to them. Children who attend will each have 15 minutes of a dog’s undivided attention to practice reading on Thursday from 3:30 to 5 p.m. For more information, call 225-8670, ext. 2.

SOUTH ENDPot Luck Dinner Party

■On Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Gibson’s, 45 S. Main St., Eleanor Dunfey-Freiburger visits to present Counter Culture: Clams, Convents and a Circle of Global Citizens, an uplifting story of her family’s origins as mill workers with 12 children to feed. They started a hospitality empire from a luncheonette and fried clam stand to what would eventually grow to be the Omni International Hotels. The author’s profits from the sale of this book will go to the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur who have served immigrant communities at St. Patrick’s School, Lowell, Mass., for 167 years.

■On Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. join the Sanctity of Life Conference at the Christ the King Activity Center, 72 S. Main St. The cost is $50 and includes lunch.
