State workers shut down a section of Interstate 93 in Concord early Thursday morning after a dump truck struck an overpass.

The crash resulted in damage to the Hoit Road Bridge in the area of I-93 southbound near Exit 17W and involved three other vehicles, New Hampshire State Police said. Troopers responded to the scene at about 6:12 a.m.

Joseph Brady, 57, of Conway, the driver of the dump truck, was issued a summons for negligent driving. Police said that while Brady was driving, the body of the truck lifted upward for reasons that weren’t immediately clear. As the ump bed lifted, the truck didn’t have the clearance to make it under the bridge. The impact of the crash ripped off the dump body from the truck and caused debris to scatter across the interstate where other vehicles were traveling.

Three drivers were taken to Concord Hospital as a precaution; there were no serious injuries reported, police said.

The crash remains under investigation. Police ask anyone who witnessed the crash to contact Trooper Nicole Stone at 223-4381 or by email Nicole.Stone@dos.nh.gov.
