Patrice Myers is facing incumbent Jim Richards in Concord School Board District A, which includes wards 1, 2, 3 and 4.

Patrice Myers

How long have you lived in Concord? I have lived in Concord since 2001.

Profession: I am retired from state service and am a U.S. Air Force veteran.

Other experience: I received a teaching degree from the University of Maine. I homeschooled my daughter, and while we were stationed overseas, I tutored students.

What two issues are most important to you, and what would you do to address them? The issues that most concern me are the lack of checks and balances in the school system, and the safety of our students. I believe every area of government should have accountability. There should be oversight. I was told that at one time, the state Legislature was that oversight. Perhaps we should go back to that system, or at least explore other options. The safety of our children is of prime concern. I would need to further explore what has been done to address the issue presently before making suggestions, but one solution might be to take a closer look at how we vet those who work with them.

What voice/skills would you add to city government? I do not have children in the Concord school system, so I have no vested interest in any one child. But I believe that as a board member, I have a vested interest in every child in the system. I am on the Board of Directors for the community in which I live, Freedom Village Co-operative, and so have experience with serving on a board.
