Twiggs explores the symbolism of ‘Nest’

‘Nest,” Twiggs Gallery’s first juried summer exhibition, showcases the talent of 31 New Hampshire artists who have delved into the concept of “nest” by exploring its literal and metaphorical dimensions. While the work naturally includes bird, insect and animal nests, it also dives into the subjects of family and home; the empty nest and comfort/retreat.

The exhibit opens with an artists’ reception on June 3 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Twiggs Gallery located at 254 King St. in Boscawen. The exhibit runs through Sept. 1.

Twiggs Gallery recently became a non-profit and was honored to have Pam Tarbell as the juror for their very first juried exhibition. Tarbell is a national exhibiting artist and curator who owned and operated the Mill Brook Gallery and Sculpture Garden in Concord for 22 years. Tarbell has served on several boards and committees advocating for the arts in New Hampshire.

“We are thrilled to have Pam choose the work for this exhibit,” shares gallery director Laura Morrison, “The “nest” theme clearly resonated with the artists. I know that several of the artists created work specifically for this show. We have a lot of sculpture along with drawing, photography, printmaking and painting. There is something for everyone in this exhibit.”

Participating artists are Lisa Almeida, Jane Balshaw, Mindy Beltramo, Jaylene Bengtson, April Boskee, Sarah Burns, Judith Cassell, Donna Catanzaro, Marian Federspiel, Jessica Fligg, Liz Hill, Anita Holt, Sher Kamman, Michelle McElroy, Dulcey Miller, Shawne Morrill Randlett, Libby Mortensen, Verne Orlosk, Diane Louise Paul, Elizabeth Pieroni, Sara Rupnik, Patricia Schappler, Carolyn Sherman, Kimberly JB Smith, Gail Smuda, Karen Sobin-Jonash, Juliana Twomey, Jennifer Vigneau, Binney Wells, Daniela Wenzel and Paulette Werger.
