Letter: Imagine a president like Tulsi Gabbard

Sometimes I think that Americans can’t imagine a government that is of, by and for the people. That lack of imagination likely comes from generational traumas that have been created by local, state and national policies.

It’s hard to imagine a pro-peace government, because war has been central to our economy.

It’s hard to imagine a government that prioritizes the health of its citizens over the greed of Big Pharma and insurance companies.

It’s hard to imagine a government that wants to give every citizen the opportunity to educate themselves so they can be productive, happy community members without poverty-inducing debt.

It’s hard to imagine a government that acts with care to protect our environment, our freedoms and rights as human beings, because we have a government that frankly does not act in the best interest of human beings.

It’s hard to imagine a government that is not run by millionaires whose sympathy is in no way parallel to the empathy that Tulsi Gabbard will bring to the office – a combat veteran who understands the cost of unnecessary U.S. military interventions on human life, immigration, culture, foreign relations, our environment and our ability to provide quality of life for every American, a candidate who sees connections.

For many of us, kindness and understanding are part of our daily lives. We shouldn’t have to imagine a government that acts the same way.

Tulsi is back in New Hampshire after Labor Day. If you can, please take the opportunity to meet her, imagine, then believe.
