Energy efficiency, more jobs and lower energy prices are something that everyone can agree on regardless of how you feel about climate change. House Bill 582 will soon be on the governor’s desk, and we will see if he acts in the best interest of Granite Staters or continues to further his own selfish agenda.
HB 582 will redirect funds from the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative to create energy efficiency projects, which will begin to catch us up with other states in New England. This bill will not only control and lower energy costs for ratepayers, but create clean jobs across the state.
Since New Hampshire joined the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, carbon emissions in the Northeast have declined by 41%. We need to continue on this path by strengthening our policies around carbon emission and incentivizing both renewable and more efficient energy. HB 582 will ensure that funds are invested in municipalities, school districts and low-income communities for these types of projects.
Residents of New Hampshire deserve a green infrastructure and a governor who will put them first. We have to voice our support for the transition to renewables. House Bill 582 is a great step in the right direction, and we have to tell Gov. Chris Sununu that signing this bill into law is in his best interest. If nothing is done, the governor will continue to think about his own personal gains, instead of the well-being of Granite Staters.
