Letter: Karen Liot Hill for Executive Council

The 5-member Executive Council is “the most important office you’ve never heard of”. It is unique to New Hampshire, and serves as the eyes and ears of the people, and as a check on the governor’s power. It functions essentially like a city council for the entire state. What better plan than to vote for a member with 20 years of experience as a city councilor, Karen Liot Hill? The Executive Council is responsible for approving state contracts, vetting the governor’s nominations for state commissioners and judges, maintaining our state’s 10-year Highway Plan, and communicating our needs and concerns to state agencies. What better plan than to elect a dedicated public servant who has extensive knowledge of state and local government in our district, Karen Liot Hill?

We in the second district have been ably represented by Cinde Warmington for the last four years, and by Colin Van Ostern prior to that. They held their own against a Republican majority on issues important to so many of us in this state, including reproductive rights, strong public education for all our children, clean energy initiatives, and protection of our beautiful natural environment. Karen Liot Hill is poised to do the same. Karen makes her home in Lebanon, but is ready to make her voice heard throughout our district, and definitely right here in Concord. She is eminently qualified for this important job. Step up to the plate on Sept. 10, and vote for Karen Liot Hill for Executive Councilor in our district.
