The town of Loudon has made an offer to a new police chief.

Dana Flanders, who has served as acting chief since former chief Kris Burgess resigned in May, was selected by Loudon’s Board of Selectmen late last month.

The offer is contingent on the town and Flanders agreeing to a contract, which has not yet happened, Board of Selectmen Chairman Jeff Miller wrote in an email.

Flanders started in the Loudon Police Department as a sergeant in 2021 and was promoted to lieutenant in 2022, according to his LinkedIn profile. Prior to coming to Loudon, he served as a detective for the Merrimack County Sheriff’s Office. He is a 2007 graduate of Plymouth State University.

Flanders declined to comment until his selection has been made official.

Burgess resigned after eight years as Loudon’s police chief to take a new job as a patrolman in Gilmanton.

“I do not believe I was ever given a fair chance to succeed as a Chief,” he wrote in a resignation letter to the Board of Selectmen.

Burgess and Miller declined to comment on the circumstances surrounding his decision to resign.
