Letter: Necessary humor

I protest! Mike Marland has been an essential part of the New Hampshire political scene for more than two decades. His work has helped New Hampshire citizens understand events, and his efforts have offered humor when the only alternative was bitter partisanship.

Giving him the chop diminishes not only the culture of political discourse in New Hampshire, it diminishes the perception of excellence at the Monitor as well.

I speak for myself and my departed friend Martin Gross when I say “Please, Monitor, reconsider this bad decision. If your motivation is cost saving, you’ll loose more without Mike than with him. If your motivation is other than financial, please think of your dedicated readers.”
