NHTI men’s basketball coach Irvin Harris was named the Yankee Small College Conference coach of the year for the 2022-23 season, his first leading the program.

The Lynx finished their season 11-3 in the conference, in part because of their offense, which averaged 86.2 points per game. They also led the conference in rebounds per game (45.2) and steals per game (nearly 12).

“Harris is an extraordinary mentor and developer of young people on and off the court,” NHTI director of athletics Ed Winters said in a release. “NHTI is very fortunate to have Coach Harris guiding the men’s basketball program. Under his watch, the program is set up perfectly to continue the rich basketball history for the Lynx.”

Added former NHTI athletic director Paul Hogan: “We were excited to have Coach Harris step up to assume the head coaching duties for our men’s program,” he said. “Harris is a trusted coach with a deep passion for the game. He is well known in recruiting circles and for his dedication to the game of basketball, his players and the greater NHTI community.”

Harris replaced Hogan leading the men’s basketball program following Hogan’s retirement last summer.
