Aidan Cox has established himself as one of the best in the region. On Saturday, he’ll compete with the best in the country.
The Coe-Brown Northwood Academy cross country standout continued his impressive senior season last weekend at the Nike Cross Northeast Regional at Bowdoin Park in Wappingers Falls, N.Y., finishing third in 15 minutes, 38.6 seconds, to qualify for this Saturday’s Nike Cross Nationals in Portland, Ore.
New England high school champ Devan Kipyego (15:34.6) of St. Raphael Academy in R.I. won the Northeast Regional, while Gilford’s Patrick Gandini finished fifth in 15:56.7 to also qualify for Nationals.
New Hampshire runners crowded the leaderboard, with Phillips Exeter Academy’s Byron Grevious finishing second (15:36.1) and Lebanon’s Birhanu Harriman finishing seventh (16:04.2).
Cox led the CBNA boys’ team (running as the Black Bear XC Club) to 13th out of 31 teams in the region.
Tyler Tkaczyk (82nd, 17:23), Nikhil Chavda (97th, 17:35), Gavin Demas (99th, 17:36), Luc Kerouac (161st, 18:20) and Sanjith Nomula (191st, 18:46) rounded out the Black Bear XC Club runners.
On the girls’ side, Coe-Brown’s Sheldyn Fisher (16th, 19:44) was the top N.H. runner.
