Letter: Attend meeting on Pembroke development

At the request of San-Ken Homes, Inc., the Pembroke Planning Board has again granted a time continuance on the proposed 56-lot subdivision on 4th Range Road. This delay is most likely due to the report from Aries Environmental Engineers and Hydrogeologists, hired by Pembroke to do a hydrology evaluation for the subdivision.

This hydrology report has validated the wetlands, overcrowding of lot size, water wells, and septic system concerns abutters and residents have been expressing at the many public hearings this development has had. It also supports the zoning space requirements and the need for wetlands protection. I strongly encourage all town residents to read the report by Aries Engineering (call the planning department at 485-4747 to request a copy).

Those who live on 4th Range Road, especially, should read the report as it specifically makes references to our wells. The next Pembroke Planning Board (public hearing) meeting will be Aug. 28 (verify date with town office).

Please plan to attend. If not, be sure to express your concerns in writing to the planning board. In my opinion, if this subdivision is approved as proposed, it will not only destroy valuable wetlands, damage the water table (a concern to all who have private wells), overcrowd the land, and destroy a rural neighborhood, but it will also set a destructive standard to our current way of life.
