Pembroke duo powers Lakes Region to boys’ basketball win over Coastal at Granite Games

Pembroke Academy’s dynamic duo of Sean Menard and Noah Cummings led the Spartans to a Division II boys’ basketball title in March. They provided an encore during the Granite Games on Tuesday at YMCA Westwood in Nashua.

Menard scored 26 points and Noah Cummings added 23 to help the Lakes Region defeat the Southern Region, 88-60, in the boys’ basketball portion of the Olympic-style event for New Hampshire’s amateur athletes under the age of 19.

Merrimack Valley’s Griffin Wheeler tallied 13 points for Lakes Region while Gilford’s Greg Madore added 10 points. Concord’s Jonathan Shamash grabbed a team-high 16 rebounds in the win.

The Lakes Region will battle with the Coastal Region on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. before wrapping up round-robin action in Nashua against Monadnock Region on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Action shifts to Southern New Hampshire University for Friday’s championship between the top two seeds.
