RB Productions’ summer of children’s theater camps began this week with Hairspray Jr.

In the musical, teen Tracy Turnblad (Chelsea Sasserson) starts off by fighting for her place on a music and dance show and ends up fighting for racial integration in the 1960s.

For five days, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the children sing, dance and practice lines with their directors leading up to two nights of performances.

Shows will be held on Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Tickets will be $15 for adults and $12 for seniors and students.

The rest of the season will be made up of the junior versions of The Little Mermaid (July 8 to 12), The Music Man (July 15 to 19), Shrek (July 22 to 26) and Seussical (July 17 to 19).
