Brandon Kear, 32, of Rindge, a former teacher and boys’ basketball coach at Mascenic Regional High School, has been indicted by a Hillsborough County grand jury for allegedly sexually assaulting a student.

According to Hillsborough County Superior Court documents, Kear allegedly engaged in sexual acts with a student multiple times between April 2020 and June 2021. The documents state that two of the alleged acts took place in Milford, while the other two were in New Ipswich, including one in the school.

The charges are aggravated felonious sexual assault, a Class S felony.

Kear led the Mascenic boys’ basketball team to a share of the 2020 NHIAA Division III state championship after the finals were canceled due to COVID. Mascenic Superintendent Chris Martin stated that Kear was placed on administrative leave immediately once the district became aware of the allegations on Oct. 14, 2022, “and shortly thereafter he was no longer an employee of the district.”

Since that time, Martin has been working with New Ipswich Police Department and the state Department of Education.

“There is nothing more important to our learning organization than the safety of our students,” Martin stated. “We are deeply disturbed by the entire situation. Staff will be available to support students and the community as we process this news.”
