Inexpensive groceries and liquor apparently go hand in hand.

The state liquor store that opened in Warner two years ago has been enough of a success that the state plans to copy it in Tilton by building on a parcel owned by Market Basket, which has a nearby store.

The New Hampshire Liquor Commission announced Tuesday that the 12,000-square-foot Liquor & Wine Outlet in Tilton will be the first in town. It “will closely mirror the new N.H. Liquor & Wine Outlet in Warner,” the agency said, and they hope it will bring in $7 million in sales the first year.

“In recent years, Market Basket has developed new state-of-the-art N.H. Liquor & Wine Outlets in Warner, Seabrook and Londonderry. Market Basket and NHLC have a great relationship,” Market Basket operations manager David McLean said in a press release.

Plans are for construction to begin this summer, with the Outlet opening in September 2020.

The Tilton store will be on the west side of Exit 20 off Interstate 93, alongside a number of other shopping centers and retailers.

The state liquor commission has been upgrading the 78 N.H. outlets for years. Since 2012, 30 stores have either been overhauled or built new, including stores in Concord, Hooksett, Pembroke, Peterborough and Warner.

Last year, the Liquor Commission reported $707.7 million in sales and $155.7 million in profits.
