Suspicious timingThey say that a picture is worth a thousand words. For nearly three decades, Mike Marland has provided us with encyclopedias of wit, humor and pointed commentary that has nailed, with precision, the political theater of our little state, a state by the way, that punches way above its weight on the national stage.
I understand that the media is triaging its dollars but shutting down one of the only reasons many of us turn to the Concord Monitor does not comprehend the value of his presence and the invaluable moral compass he has provided.
I have always wondered why Mike was willing to stay, his talent deserved a much bigger venue but he choose to make us his world and we are better informed because of it (check out his bio: comicstripfan.com/bios/m/marlandmichael.htm)
And on a political note, the timing of Marland’s termination notice is suspect given that it parallels the election of a president with an extraordinary personality and an aversion to the truth. God help us if you are acting in fear. If so your decision undermines the very reason why the Fourth Estate is so essential to a democracy.
Please reconsider your decision. We need him. Frankly, you need him.
