Letter: We need the EPA

We need the EPA

On Saturday, my family and I joined Moms Clean Air Force on the State House lawn in Concord for the New Hampshire Play-In for Climate Action. We listened to music, played with other children, and heard from speakers calling for action on climate change on the local and national level.

We also heard that Donald Trump’s proposed budget for fiscal year 2018 slashes the Environmental Protection Agency’s budget by more than 31 percent, gutting bedrock pollution protection programs and hobbling enforcement of basic clean air standards. As a parent, I am outraged at this proposal.

We depend on the EPA to protect our families from asthma, heart attacks, pre-term birth, neurological damage, cancer, strokes and other health issues linked directly to air pollution. We must let our elected officials know that we will not stand for anything but clean air, clean water and good health – and a commitment to preserving the EPA.

I encourage others to take the time to share their stories with our elected officials and ask them to take bold action to address the climate crisis, for the health, well-being and future of our children.
