Republican Chuck Morse is poised to remain state Senate president after receiving the party nomination Thursday.

The senate remains under GOP control following Tuesday’s election, though the margin is still not set. Democratic Sen. Andrew Hosmer is requesting a recount in his race against Republican Harold French, who won by a 13-vote margin.

The 14 Republican senators-elect unanimously chose Morse to continue heading the chamber Thursday. The entire 24-member Senate will vote on his nomination December 7. Morse, of Salem, became senate president in 2013 when Peter Bragdon stepped down mid-term.

Democrats selected Sen. Jeff Woodburn, of Dalton, as their leader for another term on Thursday.
