More than 150 people attended a groundbreaking celebration at Summercrest on Aug. 8.

The Assisted Living and Memory Care community located at 169 Summer St., in Newport, which currently is home for up to 54 residents, will offer new units with innovative designs in their studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments. There will also be major renovations to the existing common areas, providing residents with an all-day dining option in a new café/marketplace, a new expanded activity room, a new hair salon, and a new outdoor patio with access from the café.

The $7.2M project is funded by Housing and Urban Development (HUD) with equity contributions from Summercrest’s owners.
