Area coaches swept the Division II Coach of the Year awards, 21 area players were named to their respective First Team rosters and dozens more dotted the All-State lists that were released by the New Hampshire Soccer Coaches Association on Wednesday.
Coe-Brown Northwood Academy girls’ head coach Josh Hils was named the D-II Coach of the Year after leading the Bears (14-4-1) to their first championship game appearance in program history in his 19th year as the team’s head coach.
Bow’s Josh Smith led the Falcons (17-1-1) to their first D-II title in his first year as Bow’s head coach. Smith took over for longtime coach George Pinkham in the offseason, the first coaching change in Bow boys’ soccer history.
The Bow boys led all area soccer programs with six All-State selections, while Coe-Brown led girls’ teams with five picks.
Merrimack Valley’s Zach Stephenson won the D-II Boys’ JV Coach of the Year.
The NHSCA also released Team New Hampshire rosters for the annual Twin State Lions Cup games in the spring, matches featuring the top seniors from N.H. and Vermont.
Smith was named as one of six coaches for the boys’ team and will be joined by two of his players, midfielder Colby Smith and goalkeeper Aaron Barrieau. Hopkinton goalie Colby Boissy was also selected.
Hils was picked to be one of the four N.H. girls’ coaches. Concord’s Whitney Vaillant, Bow’s Sidney Roberge, Coe-Brown’s Somer Loto and John Stark’s Melody Couturier (all midfielders) were the area players selected.
