This week’s artist spotlight, brought to you through a collaboration with the Concord Insider and the Concord Arts Market, focuses on Holly Emrick, who lives in Boscawen. A 58-year-old mother of two and grandmother of two and a wife of 40 years, Emrick discovered jewelry-making during her 16 years as a stay-at-home mom.
Q: Tell us a little about yourself. I enjoy creating with natural materials, stone, wood, glass, crystals and of course the acorn! I also enjoy incorporating vintage jewelry pieces in my work. I don't like waste and try and find beauty in all things and the challenges of incorporating those things into wearable art.
Q: What does art mean to you? Art means escape, meditation, relaxation, creativity.
Q: Where do you find inspiration? I find inspiration from others.
Q: What does your creative process look like? Ideas/designs normally come to me at 4 a.m. (then I can’t go back to sleep) or while in the shower. Then, hopefully they involve supplies I already have on hand. If not, I try and improvise. Then the laying out of supplies, and most of the time, what I had in mind turns into something completely different.
Q: What advice do you have for aspiring artists? Do not stop creating. Ever. If it's meant to happen, you will find a way.
