Jones Field in Alton receives new CITGO sign replica from Stafford Oil

An old replica of Fenway Park’s famous Citgo sign at Jones Field in Alton has been replaced after Stafford Oil and Citgo donated the new sign to the Alton Parks and Recreation Department, the Town of Alton and the Alton Youth League said on Wednesday.

MANCHESTER – In order to knock off top-ranked Souhegan, John Stark knew it was going to take a perfect performance. The Generals took an early lead and Player of the Year Chase Philibotte struck out nine Saber batters, but John Stark (17-3) committed a couple of errors early that allowed Souhegan to claw its way back into the game and weren’t quite as crisp in the field as usual as No. 1 Souhegan (20-1) defeated the No. 2 Generals, 4-3, to win the Division II baseball championship on Saturday at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.

Before the start of the playoffs, Coe-Brown’s coach Tony DePalma was taking his team through the motions of staying undefeated, one game at a time. Through seven years with the boys’ lacrosse program, he was still hunting for the first postseason win. Finally, he’s led the Bears to their first state championship game with a win over the Hopkinton Hawks, 14-7.

The Coe-Brown softball team trusted its bats from beginning to end to outscore Merrimack Valley in the Division II semifinals on Wednesday. An eight-run first inning and a seven-run sixth saw the Bears run away and move on to the state finals.

BEDFORD – The Merrimack Valley girls’ lacrosse team’s motto all season was “Who would have thought?” Despite losing in the school’s first-ever girls’ lacrosse state championship, the players stood proudly with their second-place plaque as their fans gave them one last round of applause.

Keeping that perspective helped take a bit of the sting out of the Concord Christian Academy baseball team’s 5-3 loss to No. 6 Woodsville (14-5) in Tuesday evening’s Division IV baseball quarterfinal.
