Hopkinton 8, Monadnock 7

Key players: Hopkinton – Beth Taylor (1-for-1, 2 RBI), Maddy Follansbee (1-for-4, 2 RBI), Abby Condon (defense), Abby Simpson (defense)

Highlights: The Hawks trailed 7-2 heading into the sixth, but scored six times in the bottom of the inning to take the lead. Taylor had a huge two-out, two-run pinch-hit RBI single to put Hopkinton in the lead. Monadock led off the seventh with a single and double to put the tying and winning runs in scoring position, but the Hawks used an intentional walk to load the bases with nobody out. Two ground balls to Abby Simpson at third resulted in force outs at home and Steph Elrick struck out the final batter of the game. Hopkinton could be anywhere between No. 4 and No. 8 seed for the D-III tournament depending on the outcome of the remaining regular-season games.

Coach’s quote: “Great comeback and some nice defensive plays late. Wonderful senior game for the Hawks.” – Hopkinton’s Dan Meserve

Records: Hopkinton 12-4; Monadnock 13-3
