Letter: Russian war crimes

The marauding Russian army of executioners, rapists, plunderers and ragtag conscripts have murdered thousands of Urkrainian civilians by targeting artillery barrages against churches, schools, hospitals, malls and apartment buildings. They’re committing additional war crimes by deporting 1.5 million Ukrainians including 240,000 children into captivity in Russia. Russia under Joseph Stalin, Adolf Hitler’s collaborator in murdering Poles, made forced deportations of entire nationalities and the colonization of their lands by Russians a terrifying hallmark of the Soviet Union. Ukrainians by the hundreds of thousands were expelled to Siberia and to other remote areas of the U.S.S.R. Stalin was also responsible for starving to death 3.9 million Ukrainians during what became known as the Holodomor.

In Crimea the native Tatars were removed to Uzbekistan with 8,000 people killed outright and tens of thousands dying afterwards because of inhumane conditions. Tatars who began returning to Crimea following a 45 year exile are being viciously persecuted by Vladimir Putin’s regime. The Russian occupiers have stolen a half a million tons of Ukraine grain but it’s the fertile and productive farmland they covet most. Nikita Khrushchev said Stalin told him that had they possessed enough railroad cars he would have expelled every Ukrainian from Ukraine. There should be no doubt in anyone’s mind that Ukraine is fighting for its very existence against an evil and familiar foe which has no regard for the lives and human rights of ordinary Russians much less the people of Ukraine.
