PENACOOK Food pantry

■The United Church of Penacook Food Pantry, serving Penacook residents only, is open every Tuesday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. year-round. If Penacook Elementary/Merrimack Valley School District is closed due to weather, the pantry will also be closed. Visitors coming to the pantry are allowed two bags of groceries and one bag of personal care items every two weeks, unless extra food is available or an emergency situation comes up.

WEST SIDE Palestinian movies

■The volunteers at Bishop Brady High School will be offering the Fish Fry dinner on Friday from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Dine-in or take-out is available. The chef is preparing your choice of fresh-baked or fried haddock, clam chowder, fish tacos, coleslaw and gourmet mac and cheese. For more information or to place your take-out order call (603) 224-7418. Drinks and desserts are also available to purchase. All proceeds to benefit the Bishop Brady Tuition Assistance fund.

■The New Hampshire Peace Action-Palestine Education Network is asking you to join in the viewing of two upcoming films at the Red River Theatre. Of Land and Bread will be showing on Feb. 28 and the cost to attend is $7. On March 1, the Tower will be shown at no charge. ■The Concord Hospital is offering a Supportive Grandparenting class on March 2 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Concord Hospital. Learn how the science of childhood development has informed parenting changes in the last 20 years, and the supportive role you can play in your grandchild’s early growth and development.The cost to attend is $15 per family and pre-registration is required. ■The Concord Public Library is offering Nail Polish Hydro-Dipping for teens and tweens (ages 10 to 17) on Wednesday at 6 p.m. This class includes the nail polish marbling technique to create mugs or vases. ■Order now and enjoy a Greek meal from the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church with pick up on March 12 from noon to 1 p.m. The March meal to-go is a vegetarian dolmades, spanakopita and a dinner roll. ■On March 7 at 6:30 p.m. at Gibson’s Bookstore, hear world-famous ice climber Majka Burhardt, this time as an author to launch her book More: Life on the Edge of Adventure and Motherhood, an intense and emotional epistolary memoir born at the intersections of motherhood, twins, adventure, career, and marriage.

■Go on March 8 at 6:30 p.m. to Gibson’s Bookstore. With no registration required, Joseph Monninger comes in to present his new memoir, an uplifting journey of truly seeing and appreciating what makes life worth living in the year following a terminal diagnosis. Goodbye to Clocks Ticking: How We Live While Dying, is an unforgettable book that tells the story of a singular year of challenges, insights, and peculiar gifts.

■Gibson’s Book Club reads Taste: My Life Through Food, by Stanley Tucci, an intimate and charming memoir of life in and out of the kitchen on March 6 at 5:30 p.m. at Gibson’s Bookstore. The Book Club is free and open to the public. Newcomers are encouraged to try us out!

■The Annual SouperFest, a benefit for the Concord Coalition to End Homelessness, will be held Saturday from noon to 2 p.m. at the Bank of NH Stage. This year, SouperFest is offering up soups on a first-come, first-serve basis and only while the soup lasts. Pre-ordering will not be available. Each 8 oz. cup of soup is offered for a $5 donation. Complimentary rolls and beverages will be available.

■Since 1896, the Walker Lecture Series has brought stimulating speakers and fun performers to Concord. In the Walker tradition, all performances are free with no tickets or reservations required. ■Super Stellar Friday, at the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center, presents “Bacteria in Space” on Friday at 6:30 p.m. The NoMADS Student Team is researching what happens to soil bacteria when they are exposed to the conditions of space on the ISS. Their experiment returned from space in mid-January and the team has been hard at work analyzing the bacteria. Join them to hear about what they’ve found so far!

■Little Learners meets on March 8 at 12:30 p.m. at the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center. The Center has a new program to teach little ones about space with a variety of activities. On the first and third Fridays, there will be a hands-on activity. Although, on the second and fourth Wednesdays, a staff member will be reading one of their favorite children’s books about space.
