A single-story home in Pittsfield was left with heavy smoke and fire damage after firefighters battled a blaze for about four hours Friday night.

Fire chief Peter Pszonowsky said nobody was injured and the man who lived in the home escaped safely before first-responders arrived.

The call came about 8:20 p.m. reporting a fire in the living room at 28 Swett Road. The first firefighters to reach the scene made it in about two minutes and found the fire had spread to the roof.

The ranch-style home’s attached two-bay garage was destroyed and the bedroom sustained smoke damage. The fire was under control before it could reach the kitchen, but Pszonowsky estimated the house is likely a total loss.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Multiple area departments stepped in to assist.
