Letter: Vote for Biden, but help flip Senate too

There are many challenges that this country will face in the next four years: addressing climate change, making sure affordable health care is a right for all of us, implementing criminal justice reform, demanding human rights and eliminating systemic racism, and of course the current coronavirus pandemic and resulting mass unemployment.

Electing Joe Biden as president will be a step in the right direction, but what if the GOP maintains control of the Senate?

“If we remove Trump but we don’t remove McConnell, people need to understand how frustrating that will be,” says Ben Jealous, president of People for the American Way. “What good will a new president be if we can’t get new laws passed?”

Do you want to hear Mitch McConnell say that his top priority in the next Congress is to ensure that President Joe Biden serves only one term like he did for President Barack Obama? Do you want Mitch McConnell to resist any laws that the Biden administration and Nancy Pelosi propose?

Biden in the White House and the GOP maintaining control of the Senate could lead to the worst kind of gridlock for this country.

To flip the U.S. Senate we must support those Democratic candidates who have a good chance of defeating the incumbent in states like Maine, Colorado, North and South Carolina, Arizona, Iowa, and Montana. Google “Flip the Senate” and you will see many ways to help.
