Runners take off for New Hampshire marathon

The annual New Hampshire Marathon will be Oct. 1 at 9 a.m. In addition to the marathon, there will be a half marathon race, a 10K road race and a health walk. The marathon will begin in front of Newfound Memorial Middle School on Lake Street in Bristol, and the half marathon begins at the sculptured rocks in Groton. The marathon has donated $220,750 since 1995 to youth-centered organizations. There is a need for volunteers; if interested call 744-2713 or email

Registration for the marathon is $55, $45 for the half marathon, $30 for the 10K and $5 for the health walk ($8 for families). Check in begins at 7 a.m.

There will be a pasta dinner the night before from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Cost is $8 in advance or $10 at the door. For more information, call 744-2713, email or visit
