Letter: Harassment training is worthwhile

I am somewhat dismayed at the resistance of many in the Legislature to take part in sexual harassment training.

When I was employed as an office manager for a nonprofit many years ago, we were all asked to participate and, yes, it was mandatory. It was prompted by our insurance company. There was nothing offensive about being part of this, and it was actually enlightening. Some things that may seem non-offensive to one person might indeed be a problem for someone else. It is good to raise everyone’s awareness on how we act and speak.

If anyone feels they know it all and don’t need this, think again. Your educated awareness might allow you to help a fellow legislator be more sensitive. Also check out if this requirement is prompted by liability issues. I’ll bet it is. There are so many more important issues to be concerned about that this just seems like an unnecessary fight to pick.
