Six local golfers advanced to Thursday’s Round of 32 at the New Hampshire Golf Association’s 117th Amateur Championship, but none of them made it to Friday.

Mark Stevens, the 2008 state am champ who is playing out of Beaver Meadow Golf Course, won his morning match on Thursday, 3-and-2 over No. 44 Sam Natti (The Maplewood Country Club). But in the afternoon Round of 16 session at the Nashua Country Club, No. 12 Stevens fell to the fifth-seed, Cam Salo (The Shattuck Golf Club), 1-up.

The other five locals all lost on Thursday morning, including nine-time champ Bob Mielcarz and 2011 champ Jim Cilley.

Mielcarz, 70, hadn’t played in the state am since 2015, but decided to play this year so he could take a trip down memory lane. He made a few more memories by sneaking into match play as the No. 62 seed with two birdies in his final four holes of stroke play and then upsetting No. 3 Dustin Moreault (Derryfield Country Club) in the first round. The run came to end for Mielcarz (Concord Country Club) on Thursday when he lost to No. 30 Cameron Sheedy (Windham Country Club), 6-and-4.

Cilley (Beaver Meadow GC) won his state am title at Nashua CC, but his bid for another championship on the same course ended with a 2-and-1 loss to No. 7 Harvin Groft (the Oaks Golf Links) on Thursday.

The other locals who lost on Thursday morning were Bishop Brady grad Fletcher Sokul (1-up to Eric McCoy from Nashua CC), Concord High grad Kurt Eddins (2-and-1 to Ryan Anderson from Laconia Country Club) and Kearsarge High grad Bobby Williams (4-and-2 to Rick Moreau from Sky Meadow Country Club).

Six of the top eight seeds advanced to Friday’s quarterfinals - No. 1 James Pleat, No. 2 William Huang, No. 5 Salo, No. 6 Jack Brown, No. 7 Groft and No. 8 Ryan Kohler, who played for the now defunct Concord Quarry Dogs summer league baseball team in the mid 2000’s. The other two golfers to reach the quarters were No. 13 Ryan Brown and No. 30 Sheedy.
