A New Hampshire State Trooper and 76-year-old Manchester woman were transported to the hospital Wednesday night after a pickup truck rear-ended the cruiser, police said.

Officers from the Hooksett Police Department and the New Hampshire State Police were called to Hooksett Road at the junction of the Interstate 93 southbound on ramp at Exit 9 at 7:51 p.m. for reports that a state trooper was struck from behind while stopped, police said.

The trooper, who was not identified, was in the right lane of Hooksett Road with emergency blue lights activated investigating a separate motor vehicle crash.

The trooper was inside the vehicle with the operator of the vehicle from the initial crash, Joyce Walton, 76, of Manchester, when the police cruiser was struck from behind by a Ford F150 pickup truck.

Police arrested by Michael Pavletich, 22, of Amherst, for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. He was transported to Elliot Hospital where he refused medical treatment.

The trooper and Walton were also evaluated at Elliot Hospital for injures sustained during the crash.
