An arborist cutting branches along a town road in Canterbury was seriously injured Wednesday afternoon when the bucket arm carrying him failed, sending him plummeting to the ground. 

The victim, a 31-year-old man, was trimming trees over the power lines from the bucket of his vehicle when it broke and brought him to the ground, said Canterbury Deputy Fire Chief Scott Doherty. Rescue was called to the area of 109 Foster Road around 2 p.m. to respond. 

The 31-year-old man was transported to Concord Hospital via Penacook Rescue with injuries to his back.

The incident is being investigated by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
