Exit 17 development to see addition of retail and medical space, public hearing next month

The next phase of development at the Market Basket shopping plaza in Penacook known as Merchants Way is likely to include a 5,000-square-foot urgent care facility operated by Concord Hospital and 30,000 square feet of new retail space.
A public hearing will be held next month before the Concord Planning Board to hear the plans for the new construction at the development off Exit 17 of Interstate 93.
The preliminary design for the two new buildings and 213 additional parking spaces was accepted by the board on Wednesday. Board members did not discuss what will fill the retail space.
The shopping center, which opened last year, was built to appeal to residents in Penacook, Boscawen, Canterbury, Webster and Salisbury, among others. It had been in the planning phase for years before construction began.
The development includes a NH Liquor & Wine Outlet, Market Basket supermarket, Home Goods and Wendy’s, which joined the existing Mobil gas station and convenience store. A three-tenant building is nearly complete and will include a Service Credit Union branch drive-through and a Jersey Mike’s restaurant.
At the planning board meeting in September when engineers first delivered their phase two plans to the board, developer Laurie Rauseo said the reaction to phase one was positive and complete build-out of the site will happen over the next several years.
Updated plans, a status report and a construction timeline are expected to be discussed on July 19.
