The Children’s Literacy Foundation (CLiF) has awarded 2023-2024 Rural Library grants to twelve public libraries in Vermont and New Hampshire. The grant provides $2,500 in new children’s books for the public and local school libraries, literacy programming events, storytelling sessions, book giveaways, and more. The grantees are: Alden Balch Memorial Library in Lunenburg, VT, Allenstown Public Library in Allenstown, NH, Fairlee Public Library in Fairlee, VT, Harrisville Public Library in Harrisville, NH, Lawrence Memorial Library in Bristol, VT, Maclure Library in Pittsford, VT, Marc A. Hurzeler M.D. Library in Jefferson, NH, New Durham Public Library in New Durham, NH, Olivia Rodham Memorial Library in Nelson, NH, Patten Library in North Haverhill, NH, Rochester Public Library in Rochester, VT, and Sheldon Municipal Library in Sheldon, VT.

New Hampshire Boat Museum (NHBM) in Wolfeboro announces that after a career in high-tech marketing, leading global marketing organizations for both private and public companies, Jay Seaton has joined the board of trustees at the New Hampshire Boat Museum. Regarding his association with NHBM, he said it began in earnest in 2018 when he began to pilot their Millie B boat tours. He also possesses extensive commercial captain experience, including time spent as the primary captain for Isaiah’s Ark, which provides families whose child has cancer with a day on Lake Winnipesaukee. In looking to NHBM’s future, he expressed his hope he can assist the organization through its upcoming growth and expansion phase.

Dr. Cathleen “Cassie” Yackley of Bradford has been selected by the New Hampshire Children’s Health Foundation as the 2023 recipient of the Sandi Van Scoyoc Legacy Award. The honor is accompanied by a $2,500 prize to the recipient. Dr. Yackley founded the nonprofit Center for Trauma Responsive Practice Change, and has worked with partners all over the state of New Hampshire for decades on training in Child-Parent Psychotherapy and trauma-informed care and practices.

Courtney Beach has been appointed Student Services Coordinator at the Henniker Community School beginning July 1, 2023, as announced by Jacqueline Coe EdD, Superintendent of SAU 24. The Henniker Community School serves grades kindergarten through 8th grade.   Courtney Beach comes to HCS from Griffin Memorial School in Litchfield, where she was a Special Educator in the Autism and Developmental Disabilities program, a classroom teacher, and a case manager during the past five years. Prior to teaching at Griffin, she was an educator in Manchester and Winnisquam elementary schools.  Courtney Beach holds a C.A.G.S. in Educational Leadership: Principal Certification from New England College and a dual Master of Education  (elementary and special education) from SNHU.
