Roundup: NHIAA fall sports begin Monday

Hillsboro-Deering High School fall sports practices and tryouts start at the following times, locations and dates: boys’ soccer (Monday, 7 a.m., boys’ soccer field), cross country (Monday, 8 a.m., Grimes Field), golf (Monday, 3 p.m., Angus Lea Golf Course), girls’ volleyball (Monday, 6 p.m., HDHS gym) and girls’ soccer (Tuesday, 8 a.m., girls’ soccer field). All athletes trying out must have a current physical on file with the school nurse or one ready to turn in to their coach. All athletes trying out must also have current ImPact test results readily available if needed. Those athletes needing a test should see Coach Wood during the week of Aug. 15-19. All athletes are responsible for their own hydration for the entirety of the season.

Hopkinton Middle High School fall sports tryouts and practices begin on the following dates and times: boys’ soccer, Monday, high school field, grades 10-12 at 7:30 a.m. and grade 9 at 5:30 p.m.; girls’ soccer, Monday, 8 a.m. at Houston Field 3; field hockey, Monday, 8 a.m at the high school; cross country, Monday, 8 a.m. at the pavilion at the high school; golf, Monday, 8 a.m. at Country Club of N.H. All middle school sports start on Aug. 29 after school. Boys’ soccer and girls’ soccer will meet on Houston Field, field hockey will meet at Clark Field and cross country will meet at the pavilion. All athletes need a physical from within the last two years to participate.

John Stark Regional High School fall sports begin on Monday. Registration must be completed on and current physicals and ImPACT test results must be uploaded. Contact athletic director Rodney Brown at with questions.

Merrimack Valley High School fall sports tryouts and practices will begin on Monday at 8 a.m. at their respective game fields. All students trying out must have a physical on file dated after Jan. 1 of their eighth grade year and ImPact testing completed.

Concord Parks and Rec youth soccer league registration is open for players ages four through sixth grade. All games and practices are in Concord. More information is available at


Rundlett Middle School girls’ volleyball open gym will be held on Monday and Wednesday from 5-6:30 p.m. in the RMS gym. This is for all players in grades 6-8, from brand new players interested in learning to returning players working skills. Wear sneakers and bring water.


Concord High School Boys Soccer Alumni Game will be Thursday at Rundlett Middle School at 5:30 p.m. All past players are welcome to participate. Please email Scott Dunlop at with any questions.

8th Annual Wanakee Wilderness 5K will be held on Saturday at 9 a.m. at Wanakee, 75 Upper New Hampton Road, in Meredith. The hilly course includes dirt paths, hiking trails and beautiful views of Lake Pemigewasset. Registration is $30 through Aug. 19. Race day registration is $35. A chicken barbecque, silent auction, hiking, swimming and canoeing (with certified lifeguards on duty) follow the awards ceremony.
